So I had this concept of making an image of Iron man out of rust for my poster. To quickly rust metal I found out you could use this stuff called Muriatic Acid, but the stuff is basically diluted Hydrochloric acid and it can be pretty dangerous. During this research I came across a tutorial of making etchings using this stuff called Ferric Chloride... which you can get at radio shack suprisingly....
So I decided to attempt to make and etching... the tutorial was for making and etching onto brass.. and I found some small sheets of brass and bronze at Hobby Lobby for a few bucks...
I guess I wasn't paying attention, and I didn't even realize I bought bronze... I thought I had just gotten two different brass alloys that had different colors... I was definitely wrong... anyway... so first I had to sand then sheet of metal down and clean it with acetone (nail polish remover)

I made a stecil-like image from one of the photos we got from the movie and to get the image on to the metal I scanned it in and printed it onto an acetate transprancy...

Here's the sheet of bronze in the package....

after printing out the image... I ironed the image onto the metal. When you lay it in the acid bath, the acid should eat away everything around the image so for this first attempt I made 2 images... one was inverted.. and i covered both sides of the metal... The tutorial said I should leave it in the acid for about 3 hours... agitating it every 15 mins... well.. like I said.. I did use brass.. and this was bronze by mistake...

the acid tore right through this stuff.. I should have known since the brass was A LOT thinner than the other sheet of metal that I have... so this is what it created...
This looks really cool actually and i'm sure I could photoshop this and make it look decent.. but I'm taking another stab at this using the proper brass sheet of metal... I hope it turns out ok...

This picture below is actually BRASS...yea, there is a big difference... wish me luck...
